Wedding Photography Tips

1. Hire a professional make-up artist. When you do a test with the make up artist make sure you take a photo. So you can see what your make-up will look like in a photograph. Sometimes make up looks different in person vs in the camera. Better yet schedule your engagement session to be done on the very same day. If you need referrals for make-up artist, just ask!

2. Keep the getting ready room clean. If a room is cluttered with bags, clothing and product it will show in the pictures. If you need to assign a brides maid to the task.

3. Tell me what you want. Think about the shots you want and talk about them. Obviously I’m going to get the first dance, cake cutting…. But if you want certain unique photos let me know.

4. Walk slow. There is no rush. The slower you walk the more photos I get to take. This goes for not just the bride but the whole bridal party; walking up and down the asile, and grand entrance.

5. The best way to photograph the rings being exchanged is to twist your hand slightly toward camera.

6. Don’t invite the party during the first dance! I want to have 4-5 mins to capture the spectacular first dance.

7. Hold kisses and poses. No pecks on the big day.

8. Clean your ring. It makes a huge difference!

Arbonne Party!!!

Arbonne Party!!!
My girl friend Erin Ferrell hosted a manager’s retreat for her Arbonne Team at her amazing house in Laguna Beach. I love what I do but I love what I do even more when I get to work with my friends. I always have so much fun teaching people how to pose and making people look great. I have a couple rules when it comes to posing people to say the least. I tend to believe that I’m able to make everyone look taller and skinnier then they actually are by using the camera lenses distortion. One thing that’s important to keep in mind is that whatever is closer to the camera looks bigger, which is why I always tell people to lean slightly forward. You never ever want to put your hand on your hip and point your arm to the camera (unless you want your arms to look really big). When taking a group photo you never want to create a horseshoe, you always want to be on the same plane; otherwise the girls on the end tend to look really big. (* People in the middle always look especially skinny). For people that are subconscious about their necks they should always lean forward and point their chins slightly down. I find it does two things their necks disappear and their chin creates a shadow on their neck. Another thing you can do is insist that the photographer take your photograph from a hire angle, either you sit and the photographer stands or you stand and the photographers stands on something.
I have lots of other tricks I use with relation to the camera angle, lighting, and lens.
Don’t worry your in good hands.

The Winter Wedding Look

I’ve been wanting to shoot a bride using snow for the longest time. Being that most of my weddings are  Southern California it makes the concept very difficult. This photos were taken in my studio using left over fake snow from christmas. (super duper big mess)

Note from Tuleen and Steven

Sara,
We received our CD of engagement photos in the mail! They are SPECTACULAR!!! We are headed over to my parents house today and I can not wait to show them to my mom, who already thought they were great! The colors are so vibrant but even in black and white you capture the most amazing story of us! Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to have these memories last a lifetime!
